About Our Auction

THE STORY: A new program at Duke called Spring Breakthrough allows Duke students to take an informal course without grades or pressure, built around the concept of learning for learning’s sake. Four Duke students and instructor Joshua Sosin, an associate professor in the Department of Classical Studies, had the chance to build a bicycle through one of the Spring Breakthrough courses. In just five days, they built the custom bicycle completely from scratch -- and painted it Duke blue, of course.

The bicycle was originally going to be a gift for President Price; however, he had another idea. Since he already had a bicycle, President Price suggested auctioning the bicycle and using the funds to buy bikes and donate them to local Durham children. So, the winner of this auction not only gets an incredible bicycle (made by Duke students), but they will also be helping us provide transportation to those who need it in Durham, Duke's home.

Interested? Click the "View Items" dropbox at the top of this page and click the first item to learn more about the bicycle and start bidding! If you aren't a cyclist, you can still help us get the word out. Please share this auction with your friends and family. While we are promoting this to the Duke community, all are welcome to bid.
