DIG Comedy Night 2016. Life, Liberty, Laughter

DIG Childhood Center will be hosting the 5th Annual Comedy Night and Silent Auction benefit on November 12, 2016, entitled Life, Liberty, Laughter - For a Better America! It is our largest and most important fundraiser to date.

We face a critical challenge, which threatens to shut down our toddler program and cooperative preschool. Earlier this year, we learned that the property where we’ve operated since 2011 would be sold. To save our school, a group of parents formed a 100% volunteer board to keep the programs running under our own non-profit organization. We worked through major obstacles to get licensed as our own entity, and we secured a short term lease from our current location to buy time to find a new location.

Our short term lease ends on December 30th, but luckily, after investing hundreds of hours, we found a location that meets licensing requirements. There is much work to be done in order to bring the space up to compliance, keep our licensing, and make the space into our own special school.

Your participation in our event, whether attending the Comedy Show, or contributing to the Silent Auction or Raffle, will support critical infrastructure as we relocate our beloved program.

DIG Childhood Center is a toddler-to-preschool program dedicated to instilling young people with conflict resolution skills, resilience, and freedom from shame. We combine unconditional positive regard, non-judgmental support, and an extensive outdoor curriculum in our unique early education program.

We are an official Outdoor Classroom Project Demonstration Site – one of only 14 in Los Angeles County. Here, in an almost entirely outdoor environment, children learn problem solving, risk-taking, social and verbal skills through unstructured free play. In addition, our 1 to 4 teacher to child ratio allows us to connect deeply with the children, in order to truly learn what they are communicating through their behavior. Our priorities are to support children’s feelings and needs, and to help them gain tools to express all of their emotions, even the not-so-great ones, in appropriate ways.
