About Our Auction
Reyna Elizabeth is a 17 year old from Guatemala City. These auctions are for seven different individual pastel drawings of hers.
Reyna grew up and still lives in a shanty village in Zone 6 of Guatemala City. When she was 12 years old, Reyna began attending Gotitas de Amor, a local children’s center dedicated to helping up the impoverished kids of Guatemala City. Over the next several years, Reyna was encouraged by the director and his wife, Carlos & Lily Monterroso, to chase her dreams. For the American kid, this is a regular encouragement. But for the child growing up in the slums of Guatemala City, the only message is usually: “You’re just not gonna make it.”
Thanks in great part to the encouragement she received at Gotitas de Amor (which means “Droplets of Love”), Reyna discovered a great love for the visual arts. She has been taking as many art classes as possible in high school, amongst her other core classes. She will soon graduate (a feat in and of itself!) and is already planning on studying at university. Reyna hopes to continue working on her art, but she feeling realistic about making a living, Reyna is planning on studying the computer graphic arts.
Reyna is now serving as a mentor at Gotitas for the younger kids.
She gave these pastel drawings to a group from North Street Community Church while they were in Guatemala City in May, 2012. The group gave them over to the Ktizo Gallery & Nook, where they are hanging proudly.
100% of the proceeds from each auction will go to Gotitas de Amor to further their work in helping the kids in their neighborhood in Guatemala City.
