About Our Auction
Funds will be used to send Eric to Miami for a new treatment therapy to aid in his heroic, 3-year fight against the devastating disease ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease). This next phase in Eric's treatment plan involves a 3-week intensive treatment at BodyScience in Miami, which specializes in ALS, Medical Chemistry and Molecular Medicine: an area of cellular medicine that targets cellular repair and which has been successful in halting and even reversing ALS in patients from around the world.
This treatment costs tens of thousands of dollars and we are humbly asking for your support in making Eric's dream of survival a reality. This treatment coincides with Eric's 50th birthday, and he has chosen this treatment opportunity as his event to celebrate. In honor of Eric's 50th birthday, we are setting our fundraising goal at $50,000.
At this phase in Eric's progression, most ALS patients have succumbed to the disease, as in the case of four of his maternal family members. Eric can no longer swallow and receives all food and water directly into his stomach through a G-Tube. Eric no longer has the ability to lift his arms, or use his hands, and verbal speech is nearly impossible. Yet Eric is stable walking and breathing on his own -- a tremendous accomplishment due in large part to the support he's received from his family and friends, which has been instrumental in promoting his longevity and successful outcomes thus far.
We are very hopeful and excited for the next phase in Eric's treatment plan, so please join our 'ohana in our continued efforts to halt and reverse Eric's ALS by bidding on the fabulous items in this auction!
About Team Chunzy
Team Chunzy consists of Eric Chun and his strong support network of friends and family. A little more background:
Eric Chun was diagnosed in 2018 with familial ALS (a genetic form); in 2008, Eric's mom, beloved Hawai'i artist Peggy Chun, lost her brave 6-year battle against ALS, the disease that had taken her maternal grandfather, mother and her twin sister, Bobbi.
Fortunately, Eric has a strong foundation to help him fight this battle. As a lifelong athlete and waterman, his body is tough. As an accomplished artist, his mind is sharp and creative. And as an incredibly loving human being who is embraced by so many, his spirit is strong! His optimism and courage shine through in his music, where when he could no longer strum his ukulele with his right hand he rigged a device that allowed him to strum with his toe, hence the birth of ...wait for it... TOE JAMZ! (Search for Eric Keala Chun on YouTube to check out his music videos!)
Team Chunzy is so thankful for the overwhelming love our family and friends have gifted Eric throughout this challenging time. And we are enormously grateful to our auction donors and bidders for extending their generosity to help Eric continue in his fight against ALS.
ʻAʻohe hana nui ke alu ‘ia.
No task is too big when done together by all.
