We recently received Creative Partnerships Australia (CPA) Plus 1 matching funding up to $20,000 towards the care and conservation of our Nationally Significant collection and our outreach programs.

We have embarked on a fundraising campaign to raise $20,000 before 1 May 2019 in order to access these funds.

We have chosen the umbrella to celebrate the creativity and inventiveness of Slawa Horowitz-Duldig, who designed and patented a modern folding umbrella in Vienna in 1929. She had the umbrella manufactured in Austria and Germany prior to WW2. Her umbrella was displayed in the Inventors’ Pavillion at the 1931 Vienna Spring Fair and hailed at the time by a newspaper reporter as ‘the magic umbrella of the sculptress’. Slawa was forced to sell her patents in 1938 when she, Karl, and baby Eva fled Vienna and began their long journey to Australia via Switzerland and Singapore. The umbrella prototype, drawings, and patent documents are key works in the Duldig Studio’s collection and fundamental to the Duldig Story.

Duldig Studio – museum + sculpture garden is the former home and artists' studio of sculptor Karl Duldig (1902-1986) and his wife - artist and inventor Slawa Duldig née Horowitz (c1902-1975). Established in 1996 it is now 22 years old and attracts bigger audiences each year who come to learn about art, migration history, WW II, Australian and European history, sculpture and the Duldig family legacy.

In 2002 the Studio became incorporated and is a tax-exempt charity, recognised as a deductible gift recipient institution under the Commonwealth Government’s Cultural Gifts Program. Duldig Studio is also an accredited museum through Museums Australia (Victoria).
We are engaged in wide variety of community and educational outreach programs from schools’ programs through to disability and aged care.
