Another World 60th Anniversary Charity Auction

The Another World 60th Anniversary Celebration (Cast Reunion/Fan Luncheon) will be held at Tarrytown House Estate on the Hudson on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Part of the event will be a silent auction of Another World Memorabilia, themed prizes, and unique experiences. All bids will be placed online. The auction will end at 3:30pm on May 4th.

Prizes will be added as donations are received.

Bidding is in USD and must be entered in whole dollar amounts.

Auction proceeds will be divided equally between the following three non-profits:
-National Cervical Cancer Cancer Coalition, Lancaster Chapter
-American Federation for Suicide Prevention, NYC Chapter
-Upstage Lung Cancer

The National Coalition for Cervical Cancer was founded in 1996 as a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to serving women with, or at risk of cervical cancer and HPV. Their mission is to promote prevention through education about early vaccination and regular screenings.
Actor Robyn Griggs Wiley portrayed Maggie Cory on Another World from 1993-1995. She was an active member of Another World Memories as well, and had looked forward to helping me plan this event. Robyn was diagnosed with stage four Endocervical Adenocarcinoma in August 2020. She passed away at age 49 on August 13, 2022. In the two years she spent fighting cancer, Robyn used her platform to spread awareness. To honor her memory, Robyn’s niece, Bailey, started a chapter of the NCCC in Lancaster (Robyn’s home town) to continue Robyn’s mission of education and raising awareness. NCCC provides educational materials on prevention and screenings as well as patient and caregiver support and advocacy.
According the the US Department of Health and Hunan Services, 80% of women will get at least one type of HPV in their lifetime. The American Cancer Society states that in 2023, about 13.960 new cases of invasive cervical cancer will be diagnosed in the US. It is the fourth most prevalent cancer among women. What is most alarming is that late stage diagnosis of cervical cancer is on the rise. Knowledge on prevention is essential. And If detected in precancerous cells or in early stage cancer, cervical cancer it is curable. Annual screening and early detection are critical.

The American Federation for Suicide Prevention was founded in New York in 1987 with a mission to “save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide”. AFSP is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating the loss of life by delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, fundraising for research and programs, and reaching out to those who have lost loved ones.
In 2022, the CDC reported that 49,500 people died by suicide, the highest rate ever recorded in the US. A 2023 article published in Harvard Medical School’s News and Research states that 50% of the world population will develop a mental health disorder in their lifetime; the most common being depression and addiction.
AFSP has chapters in all 50 states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico. Before AFSP, there was no national-scope not-for-profit organization dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education, and advocacy.. Awareness, resources, destigmatization of mental illness, and empathy is so very important. I think it’s safe to say everyone reading this has lost someone to a mental health crisis they just couldn’t overcome. I also believe there is no greater despair than that of a parent who has lost a child. One third of silent auction proceeds will go to AFSP’s NYC Chapter, in memory of Mark Pinter (Grant Harrison) and Colleen Zenk’s son, Morgan.

Upstage Lung Cancer is a Massachusetts based volunteer run non-profit founded in 2007. They are the first cancer charity to exclusively use music and performing arts to accomplish their mission. Upstage Lung Cancer is run by a group of lung cancer survivors, friends and family who have been affected by lung cancer, physicians, and members of the performing arts community.
Lung Cancer is the leading cause of death in both men and women in the United States. The vision of Upstage Lung Cancer is to advocate for early detection and to increase detection and diagnosis rates by 50% by 2025. Their mission is to promote awareness and raise funds for research. Since 2011, they have funded over $3.6 million in early detection lung cancer research.
This charity was selected in memory of AW’s favorite redeemed villain, Charles Keating (Carl Hutchins) and in honor of warriors Paul Valley (Ryan Harrison) and Susan Sullivan (Lenore Moore).
