BLRR Fall Auction 2024

Brookline’s dogs are carefully evaluated, and potential adopters are screened, in order to make the best match. We successfully place more than 100 Labradors each year! We know we can’t save them all, but we are making a huge difference to the ones we do save. Our volunteers work tirelessly in support of our mission – they are the heart and soul of our rescue. However, all of our financial support is received through private donations, nominal adoption and surrender fees, and fundraisers such as our online auctions. Every dollar we raise helps to cover veterinary and other expenses we incur in caring for and matching our rescued Labs to their perfect forever family. Your support is crucial to our mission of saving more Labs. Together, we will make a difference!

Thousands of success stories and many repeat adopters make all of our efforts worthwhile.

Rigby (pictured left), a 5-year-old yellow male lab, was rescued along with his big brother, Marley, on 9/4/2024 after having recently been neutered. A few days after arrival, Rigby was admitted to a vet hospital for an extensive hospital stay due to severe bleeding and too many infections to list. His stay included almost two weeks in isolation because of a serious and contagious infection. Rigby’s bloodwork was studied several times a week by Metropolitan, Penn, and Cornell. Rigby was given many blood and plasma transfusions, injections to fight the infections, and overnighted cryoprecipitate for more specialized infusions.

Finally, Rigby was released on 9/23/24 with his cone, every restriction imaginable, and a big bag of medicine to finish healing at home where he was confined to a single room to heal and rest. He continued to be seen at the vet hospital several times a week until his final release on 10/8/24 with a diagnosis of hemophilia and an expectation to live a full and normal life.

Rigby has returned to normal dog activities like playing fetch, taking walks, chasing squirrels, and enjoying free roam of the house without a cone. Additionally, he and his big brother Marley are happily reunited in their foster home!

Of course, all of this came with a big price tag. Rigby’s vet expenses exceeded $17,000. We are thrilled to be able to help dogs like Rigby, but our ability to provide this care is dependent on the donations we receive and the money brought in by our fundraisers. Our adoption fees do not even come close to covering the expenses we incur in helping the dogs in our care live the lives they deserve.

100% of the proceeds from our Auction will go towards our substantial vet expenses. Our hope is that the funds we raise will allow us to continue to provide quality care to many dogs. So please, BID EARLY, BID OFTEN, BID HIGH!

Once again, we would like to thank A. H. Davis & Son Roofing & Siding (West Chester, PA) for their generous donation in covering our auction's shipping expenses!
