Cat Art Auction 2024

Our annual art auction raises funds to help rescue homeless, adoptable cats and kittens in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. We rescue, foster, vet, and home adoptable cats to reduce suffering and decrease the homeless cat population.

BUSINESSES AND PROFESSIONALS - DID YOU KNOW AN ART PURCHASE CAN BE A TAX EXPENSE?
If you are operating a business and the piece of art has been purchased with the intent of holding on to it for a long-term investment, or to benefit your place of business (e.g. exhibited in a place of business where clients and/or employees will see it), it is a business expense using the Capital Cost Allowance deduction.
Types of Art Purchases That Are Tax Deductible:
- A painting, drawing, sculpture, or other similar work of art where evidence of the artist's hand is apparent (a print purchased at Homesense does not apply!).
- Valued at $200 or more, verifiable by invoice/receipt.
- Produced by a Canadian artist or an artist who was Canadian at the time of creating the artwork. If the artwork meets the above criteria it will qualify as a Class 8 depreciable capital property for which Capital Cost Allowance (CCA) can be claimed. Please see your accountant to confirm if your art purchase qualifies.
