Evaristo started treatment for his Stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma on January 30th. He takes a pill every 12 hours (Axitimid) and an IV every 21 days (Pembrolizumab), he also gets Zoledronic Acid every 21 days (for the metastasis in the bones). On Thursday April 1st we had CT scans done to see if we are making any progress and we received excellent news, the tumors have shrunk and no new tumors were found which means the treatment is working!! Evaristo got his fourth IV on Saturday April 3rd. Our Oncologist would like to do two more then another set of scans. The treatment Evaristo is getting is not available through our Government insurance, it costs $12,000.00 usd every 21 days. We are fortunate we had savings and the Tacoma ( sold two weeks ago) but most importantly the support of our Family and Friends, we are so grateful️ Evaristo's pain from his broken vertebrae is managed by Buprenorphine Transdermal Patches which we change every four days. The pain is now manageable wich has allowed us to be more active at work( Fierito's) and PET and just in general, of course some days are better than others and the days right after he gets his IV are not so good. There are also side effects to the treatment in general and we manage those as best we can. He has not regained use of his right hand. So... one day at a time, working on staying positive, optimistic and hopeful.

Evaristo inició el tratamiento para su Carcinoma de Células Renales ( Cancer de Riñón) en estadio IV el 30 de Enero. Toma una pastilla cada 12 horas (Axitimid) y cada 21 días vía intravenosa (Pembrolizumab), también recibe Ácido Zoledrónico cada 21 días (para las metástasis en los huesos). El jueves 1 de Abril hicimos tomografías para ver como vamos. Recibimos excelentes noticias, los tumores se han reducido y no se encontraron nuevos tumores, lo que significa que el tratamiento está funcionando!!! El sábado 3 de Abril le aplicaron la cuarta sesion. A nuestra Oncóloga le gustaría hacer dos más y después de eso otra vez tomografías. El tratamiento que está recibiendo Evaristo no está disponible a través de el IMSS, cuesta $ 12,000.00 usd cada 21 días. Afortunadamente teníamos ahorros y la Tacoma (se vendió hace dos semanas) pero lo más importante ha sido el apoyo de nuestra Familia y Amigos, estamos muy agradecidos Hemos podido manejar el dolor que siente Evaristo por las vértebras fracturadas con parches de Buprenorfina que cambiamos cada cuatro días. El dolor ahora es manejable lo que nos ha permitido ser más activos en el trabajo (Fierito's), en PET y en actividades diarias. Por supuesto algunos días son mejores que otros y los días inmediatamente posteriores al tratamiento intravenoso no son tan buenos. El tratamiento también tiene efectos secundarios en general y los manejamos lo mejor que podemos. Sigue si poder utilizar su mano derecha. Entonces ... un día a la vez, trabajando para mantenernos positivos, optimistas y no perder la esperanza.

Evaristo is truly a modern day hero who has selflessly donated his life to help Cabo's cats and dogs. Even when he could barley walk, he was at weekend clinics moving dog crates, carrying animals, and pushing through his pain. It is time that we now give back to Evaristo.
