About Stafford Plant:
Stafford Plant, originating from Esquesing, Ontario, received his education at the Western Technical School of Art. Under the tutelage of notable figures like L.A.C. Panton, Arthur Lismer of the Group of Seven, and Frank Brigden, Plant honed his artistic skills. He applied his talents in various capacities, from graphic and structural design to advertising for companies like MacMillan Bloedel.
After his military service as a Lieutenant and subsequent discharge, Plant pursued further education at the University of British Columbia. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Toronto Arts Club and served as a council trustee for the Vancouver Art Gallery. Additionally, he became affiliated with esteemed artistic societies such as the Canadian Society of Marine Artists and the Federation of Canadian Artists as a Signature member.
Plant's artistic endeavors encompassed both painting and graphic design, characterized by meticulous attention to detail. Throughout his career, he seamlessly navigated between the realms of commercial and fine art, exploring diverse styles and themes, from realistic depictions to semi-abstract interpretations of nature.
However, disillusionment with the conventional gallery system led Plant to withdraw his works from commercial exhibitions and retreat from public life. In his later years, he sought a more altruistic artistic environment, leaving a lasting legacy by bequeathing 301 of his paintings to the FCA upon his passing in November 2000. Each painting was carefully selected and packaged by Plant himself, reflecting his enduring commitment to the organization and its member artists. FCA sincerely appreciate the generous donation of Stafford Plant.
