About Our Auction
A group of Hazen Union School Spanish language students will step beyond their rural Vermont homes to explore language, culture, history, arts, and life around Mexico City, Mexico, for 13 days in June 2019. We are fundraising to help all participants afford this opportunity to gain invaluable personal and academic understandings and skills that will prepare them for success in our multicultural world. Please email kfreedy@ossu.org for more information about our program.
About Hazen Union School Travel Study Program
Based out of the Casa de los Amigos Center for Peace and International Understanding, Hazen Union School student participants and 2 accompanying chaperones will encounter aspects of daily living in Mexico City while also exploring some of the oldest and most phenomenal historic and cultural sites of Latin America. Their journey will take them to art and history museums, including Frida Kahlo's home and the world-renowned Museum of Anthropology, sporting and cultural events, and at least 2 UNESCO World Heritage sites. They will spend days beyond the city limits in Tlaxcala, navigating the ancient canals of Xochimilco, and at the Aztec ruins of Teotihuacan.
By organizing this program "in-house," we have managed to keep the cost below that of using an external travel provider. Neverthless, cost is a significant hurdle for families in a school where just over 60% of all students are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
