NourishMKE Empty Bowls 2024

On October 13th, more than 1,500 handmade, one-of-a-kind bowls will be available for purchase at Empty Bowls - held at the Kern Center from 12-3pm. Guests can enjoy a beautiful piece of art which also serves as a reminder that someone's bowl is always empty in our community.

NourishMKE, formerly Friedens Food Pantries, has been nourishing communities for over 40 years. As Milwaukee’s largest food pantry network, we build community through dignified food access, food education, food rescue and sustainable practices, food advocacy, and community connection. Each year, we serve over 54,000 individuals in Milwaukee across four sites with over 1 million pounds of healthy, nutritious, free groceries. Our community-driven approach aims to create safe and dignified environments that reduce the stigma of food insecurity, which affects up to 1 in 7 Americans (Feeding America).

At NourishMKE, food is at the heart of what we do. We grow food together in our container beds and hydroponic towers. We prepare weekly food samples for guests at our cooking education table. And most importantly, we build connections between neighbors when we break bread together in our community food centers. We believe wholeheartedly that everyone deserves access to good food, and that food is able to transform lives, the economy, and the environment.
