About Our Auction
Around 400,000 people die from Malaria each year and over 200 million more fall ill. One of the largest impacted demographics in these statistics are children, 70% of which are under five years old. Additionally, malaria is the #1 killer of pregnant women globally. Considering that malaria is preventable and impacts so many people around the world, our student body is driven to this cause in order to help save lives, spread awareness and impact the greatest amount of people.
How will your donation make an impact?
100% of public donations buys long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs). The most effective means of preventing malaria is sleeping under a mosquito net, specifically a long-lasting insecticide treated net (LLIN). Each net costs about $2.00, lasts for 3 to 4 years, and protects on average two people. Nets act as both a mechanical barrier that stops the mosquito from getting to the person and a means of killing the mosquito. It has been proven that even with holes, mosquito nets are 99% effective (https://www.againstmalaria.com/WhyNets.aspx)!
