About Our Auction

We are raising money for our son's gene therapy by auctioning items on this website.

In December, our 7-year-old son was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia Type 4 (SPG4). This disease is progressive and there is currently no cure or treatment to stop the progression. This diagnosis means that patients slowly become paralyzed over time, and there is nothing to help them or to stop this from happening. The cure to SPG4, a gene therapy, is currently being researched and can be developed relatively quickly if it can be funded. The cost to bring this cure to human clinical trials is $3 million USD. My husband and I are doing everything we can to raise money for the cure before our son becomes paralyzed. This cure is giving us hope, and hope to all other families affected by SPG4. You can find out more about our story, as well as our fundraising video, on our Canadian Charity Website: SPG4 Cure - Blu Genes Foundation: https://blugenes.org/spg4-cure/

About SPG4 Cure Fundraiser

We are Richard and Anna Laidlaw from Ottawa. Our 7-year-old son Jack was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease that is progressive called Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia type 4 or SPG4. This diagnosis means that he is slowly becoming paralyzed. There is currently no cure, nor any treatment to stop the progression. What is giving us hope is that a cure for SPG4, a gene therapy, is currently being researched and could be developed relatively quickly if it can be funded. However, rare disease research rarely progresses to human clinical trials due to the small population affected and the amount of funding required. This gene therapy will cost $3 million USD. We made our SPG4 Cure Fundraiser to raise money to help fund the research and development of the SPG4 cure gene therapy to human clinical trials. We are a part of a Canadian charity, the Blu Genes Foundation, and our donation website is: https://blugenes.org/spg4-cure/ All donations are truly appreciated, and every little bit helps. If you can help us save our son from the debilitating effects of this disease, we would be forever grateful.
Love Richard and Anna (Jack’s Parents)
