About SchoolBOX

SchoolBOX is a non-profit charity working to break down the educational barriers that First Nations youth and children face in Canada. Our current focus is in Treaty 3 territory, an area situated in northwestern Ontario, where we partner with local leaders, Chiefs, and Council of First Nations communities to help implement the educational goals of each community. Some examples of our work include:

1. Learning Centres: We help fund, build, and deliver educational spaces which can empower the kids’ educational journeys from grades K-12. This may include a new library, teaching or resource
spaces, as well as the furniture, equipment, and supplies required to make the space functional.

2. Mini-Libraries: Not all communities can host a library so as an alternative, we've created a way
to support educators and staff of First Nations schools by providing them with books for their individual classrooms. In this program, educators receive a budget and create their wish list of books and we work with a variety of sources to gather and deliver on their requests.

3. Healthy Lunches: We know lunches increase school attendance and improve classroom performance and student well-being, and we have the data to prove it. In this program, we work with locally trained Indigenous chefs to create and supply healthy school lunches for kids in First Nations communities.

At SchoolBOX, we fully affirm the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions’ recommendations to eliminate the
education gap for First Nations kids. Our mission is to make education possible; and we believe that all children are equal and have the right to reach their potential.
