Victoria Bulldog Society - Holiday Auction

Hello everyone,

I am Melanie Dry, and for the past two decades, I've been dedicated to helping homeless Bulldogs in British Columbia. While some might think I solely run a Bulldog rescue, I have a full-time job in the medical industry. I'm also a proud mother of two wonderful boys, aged 5 and 1.5 years, and share my life with my own personal dogs and my partner, Tyson.

In addition to my efforts, I founded the Victoria Bulldog Society, a Non-Profit Organization, in February 2019 to extend our assistance to more needy Bulldogs. Our organization takes English and French Bulldogs from owner surrenders, shelters, and pounds. In some cases, we've also made exceptions to help Pugs and, more recently, a French Bulldog/Boston Terrier mix who found a loving home. Many of the dogs we take in arrive with significant medical issues that require complex veterinary care, and some have behavioural challenges that necessitate training. We currently are caring for 8 Bulldogs.

We've recently faced substantial veterinary bills for our beloved Bulldogs. Malibu needed an urgent dental procedure, x-rays, and care that cost over $8000. Momo underwent a femoral head osteotomy and BOAS surgery, totalling $6800, and we are now embarking on his rehabilitation journey, which we expect to cost $2500-$3500. Our newest bulldog, Hank, will require dental and some work to clean. Unfortunately, there is no end in sight to the financial challenges we encounter. This year, we had to close our intake, which was a heart-wrenching decision. Turning away dogs we knew we could help if we had the necessary funds was incredibly difficult. The cost of caring for each Bulldog significantly exceeds our adoption fees and fundraising efforts.

To address these financial hurdles, we are hosting this Online Auction to raise the funds required to continue our mission. We extend our deepest gratitude to all the donors who have made this auction possible.

Our unwavering passion for helping homeless Bulldogs fuels our determination, but regrettably, the need persists. We implore you to bid generously in this auction and help us maintain the care these Bulldogs so rightly deserve. Hello Everyone,

My name is Melanie Dry and I have a passion for helping homeless Bulldogs in BC for the last 2 decades. Some people think all I do is run a bulldog rescue but I actually work a full-time job in the medical industry. I'm also a mom of 2 amazing boys almost 5yr old & 1-year-old infant & have my own personal dogs along with my partner Tyson.

On top of that, I established Victoria Bulldog Society a Non-Profit Organization in early 2019 so we can help more Bulldogs. We take in English & French Bulldogs from owner surrenders, shelters, and pounds & have made some exceptions to help Pugs and recently a French Bulldog/Boston Terrier mix. Most come in with major & minor medical issues. We currently have 7 dogs in care.

These last few years have been hard for fundraising during the pandemic not being able to do any in-person events or meet-ups which we haven't yet resumed. We pivoted and started doing a year-round bottle drive in hopes to keep up with vet bills & contactless fundraising via our VarageSale Store. Unfortunately, the cost of vetting each Bulldog far outweighs our adoption fees & fundraising efforts. So, we are holding this Online Auction to help make up a little difference in the financial aspect of caring for all these deserving dogs.
