Wild Night @ Larnach Castle

Larnach Castle is proud to be hosting the Wild Night Masquerade Ball in conjunction with the Wild Dunedin Festival of Nature. As part of this special evening, this silent online auction allows individuals to contribute to the fundraising being done to benefit the hoiho (yellow-eyed penguin). You don't have to be attending the ball to participate in the auction - all are welcome to bid.

Weaving a kete of support: SAVING THE HOIHO

The OPERA – Otago Peninsula Eco Restoration Alliance (through the Otago Shore & Land Trust), The Wildlife Hospital Dunedin, and the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust, have developed a circle of intervention to help save the fewer than 500 hoiho remaining on the mainland. In coordination with DOC and others, the partners monitor, uplift, treat, and rehabilitate sick, injured, and starving hoiho, ultimately releasing them back into the wild.

Through their alliance, the organizations care for more than half of this population each year in a valiant effort to preserve this taonga species from extinction. There there work, 98% of hoiho uplifted for care are successfully returned to the wild.

As partners with a purpose, each organization will receive a third of the charitable funds raised by this gathering.

This is a special fundraiser being held in association with the Wild Night Masquerade Ball @ Larnach Castle as part of Wild Dunedin NZ Festival of Nature.

The funds raised through this auction will go toward helping save the hoiho (yellow-eyed penguin). Proceeds will be evenly split between the Dunedin Wildlife Hospital, The Otago Shore & Land Trust (benefiting The OPERA), and the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust.
