The Adult Literacy League has been teaching Central Florida’s adults to read and write, and to speak English for the last 52 years. But, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, we were forced to reflect, react, and adapt in order to continue providing educational opportunities for the hundreds of students we are serving every week. Online learning has become our “new normal”, and with the help and support of our generous friends and corporate sponsors - Bank of America, OUC -The Reliable One, KPMG, Orlando Health, Publix Super Markets Charities, Burr Forman, Brandon and Farmand Families, UCF and Orlando Magic, we have expanded our online classes from 0 to nearly 20 in just a matter of weeks! Additionally, we are supporting the online and in-person tutoring of more than 200 tutor/student pairs who continue to work together.

Also as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to cancel our annual fundraising event, Reading Between the Wines, which raises approximately 20% of our annual budget in one night. Although we can’t gather in person, we have moved the event’s auction online, where everyone can still participate!

ALL proceeds raised from this online auction will be used to support our programs and students. Our services are needed more than ever. We are being inundated with health and public safety-related messages, and it's vital ALL community members are able to read, understand, and follow them. As our students – our neighbors and friends - work to reenter the workforce after COVID-related job-loss, they will need our help improving their skills to ensure they’re viable in today’s job market.
