The 2014 Carle Honors Art Auction

The Carle Honors Art Auction features original works of art donated by some of the industry’s most celebrated artists. Eighteen pieces are up for bid. All art will be on display from September 3 to September 17 at Books of Wonder, 18 West 18th Street, in New York City. The auction will culminate via silent auction and proxy bid at The Carle Honors, September 18, 2014. All proceeds benefit The Carle's mission to instill a love of art and reading through picture books.

The mission of The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, a non-profit organization in Amherst, Massachusetts, is to inspire a love of art and reading through picture books. The only full-scale museum of its kind in the United States, The Carle collects, preserves, presents, and celebrates picture books and picture book illustrations from around the world. In addition to underscoring the cultural, historical, and artistic significance of picture books and their art form, The Carle offers educational programs that provide a foundation for arts integration and literacy.

Founded by Eric and Barbara Carle in November 2002, The Carle includes over 12,000 picture book illustrations, three art galleries, an art studio, a theater, picture book and scholarly libraries, and educational programs for families, scholars, and schoolchildren. The Carle was named a finalist for the 2015 National Medal by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

We encourage all bidders to use your highest possible Proxy Bid to give you the best chance of winning the piece. The online portion of the auction will end at noon on Thursday, September 18. When the online auction ends, only the Leading Bidder will advance. You will be notified by email if you are the Leading Bidder or if you have been outbid.

If you are the Leading Bidder and cannot attend the event, your Proxy Bid will be used at the silent auction at Guastavino's in New York. The Carle Staff will bid for you against other on-site bidders by placing bids on the bid sheet in $100 increments, bidding only as high as necessary to secure the piece. The silent auction will run from 5:30 pm until the ending bell at 9:00 pm. All winning bidders will be notified via email within 24 hours.
