About Our Auction

Online Art Auction in support of the Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts (GPCA), an artist residency and event space on Mnisiing/Toronto Island.

The incredible list of artists that have generously participated in this initiative, includes:

Ibrahim Abusitta, Stephen Andrews, Shary Boyle, Lisa Cristinzo, Laura Dawe, Dylan Glynn, Andrew Harding, April Hickox, Barbara Klunder, Brendan George Ko, Zachari Logan, Rachel MacFarlane, Shawn Skeir, Ilene Sova, Janna Watson, and Alize Zorlutuna.

For 25 years, GPCA has served over 10,000 artists and writers by offering residency space on the Gibraltar Point shoreline, just a 5-minute boat ride from the hustle of downtown Toronto—a truly unique feature of Toronto’s art scene. Despite its integral role in artists’ lives, GPCA has faced significant challenges, particularly following the uncertainty created when the previous operator, Artscape, went into receivership. Now under the stewardship of the nonprofit Art Hubs, GPCA urgently needs community support for its second life, especially to address critical operational costs and necessary roof repairs.

The online auction, aimed at fundraising for the centre, will launch on Saturday, September 21, 2024, coinciding with Gibraltar Point’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, and will run until October 10, 2024.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

Art Hubs Toronto Inc will not be able to provide charitable receipt for donations of artwork, or funds to purchase, but will provide a letter confirming the funds provided are in support of the non profit Art Hubs Toronto Inc and will go directly to Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts, they will also provide a receipt of purchase. Please also note that the majority of artists have donated 100% of proceeds from sales, but that some artists have taken a percentage to support their own costs.

The purchaser will be contacted directly after the closing date of October 10th to arrange payment through Art Hubs.

All shipping and pick up of art work will be arranged between the purchaser and artist, please note cost associated if you are not local to the area and vice versa.

Thank you for your interest and support!

About Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts

Housed in a former school surrounded by 46 acres of parkland, it is operated by Arthubs as an arts and cultural facility, open year-round. Over the years Gibraltar Point has hosted thousands of artists both local and international, who have taken advantage of the facility’s quiet and natural setting to focus on their practices and projects through short-term residencies and long-term studio rentals. Gibraltar Point has also become recognized as a perfect place to host a variety of events. ArtHubs Toronto Inc. acknowledges Toronto as a sacred gathering place for many Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island. We recognize the long history of First Nations and Métis Peoples in Ontario, and show respect today to the Mississaugas of New Credit.
