Mex 1 Coastal Cantina opened in 2013 at our original location in West Ashley. We have had a great response and support from the community over the years and have been able to grow to 3 locations. Since then, we have been lucky enough to give back to the community through Spirit Nights, charitable Tequila dinners, gift card donations and other fundraising events. Like many other restaurants, we have been forced to temporarily lay off over 95% of our crew members as we navigate through these unprecedented times.

We have some of the most loyal, hardworking, free-spirited and caring crew in Charleston. They truly believe in giving you the best customer experience possible. This auction is an opportunity to give back to those that have proudly served you over the years. We have put together some one of a kind experiences that you can bid on with 100% of the proceeds going directly to our crew to assist with living expenses, medical bills and family needs. From an all expenses paid trip to Mexico to a Tequila Dinner with a few of your closest friends, we hope you find some experiences to bid on so we can give back to our crew members that have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

In 2013, Dave and Chrissy Lorenz opened Mex 1 Coastal Cantina near the Avondale area of Highway 61 in West Ashley, SC. Since it's inception, the goal has been to serve fresh, flavorful Baja Mexican fare and premium tequilas in a friendly, laidback, 'come as you are' atmosphere - a vibe that embodies the surfing and coastal lifestyle paralleled to the Baja Peninsula culture.

Mex 1 takes pride in serving fresh, locally sourced produce, much of which is found right here in South Carolina's backyard. Enjoy the simplicity of natural protein and produce coming together, all food is free of heavy sauces and chicken and pork is smoked on-site. Drop in and you will find a variety craveable eats, including tacos, quesadillas, baja rice bowls, tortas and fresh salads, all made in-house daily to ensure each bite is just as fresh as the last.

There's nothing better than a cocktail to sooth your soul. Mex 1 uses only 100% agave tequila and all margaritas are made with freshly squeezed juices. Mex 1 has an extensive tequila, rum and mezcal selection and offers a number of house-infused tequilas including: pineapple, pineapple habanero, berry serrano, strawberry cucumber and jalapeno.

The Lorenz's have proudly captured the spirit of that on the Baja Peninsula and brought it home. From the sunset wall behind the bar bathed in oranges, yellows and reds to the authentic surfboards throughout the restaurant and surf videos playing on the TV’s, you could swear the smell of the ocean is in the air. In the summer of 2016, Mex 1 opened its doors at a second location in Sullivan's Island, SC, and their third in North Mount Pleasant, SC in 2018. The three sister restaurants are a 'go-to' destination in their respected beach communities; serving flavorful Baja Mexican fare, fresh margaritas, and a relaxed atmosphere. Drop in- Chill out....
