About Our Auction
Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity (NOHFH) is committed to providing our low-income neighbors with a better quality of life through safe, decent housing. Today NOHFH has a myriad of housing solutions including new home construction, rehabilitation, critical home repairs, weatherization and A Brush with Kindness projects. This broad spectrum has enabled NOHFH to be a housing resource for many more homeowners in our community.
In 2015, we completed our 15th affordable home in Manitou Park for Colleen, Paul and their five children as part of Neighborhood Revitalization efforts. Prior to this project, we built a home for Diane, a single mother with two children, also in Manitou Park. Diane works for the Ocean County Library and recently received a full-time promotion. She insists that the stability of home ownership contributed to her success.
In addition to building affordable housing, our affiliate re-built 60 homes for those impacted by Super Storm Sandy. We recently received additional funding from the First Lady's fund to re-build 12 more homes. As we all know, many families have struggled to re-build their lives after the storm and unfortunately many are still struggling. We are pleased to be a solution for so many of our displaced low- income neighbors.
In 2010, NOHFH recognized the need to assist struggling people with simple repairs to their homes. After having difficulty paying mortgage, insurance, utilities, food, medical and other expenses, these homeowners do not have the financial means for simple repairs. Recognizing this need, NOHFH adopted the 'A Brush with Kindness' program. This program has provided over one-hundred homeowners with a better quality of life through safe, decent housing in northern Ocean County. Our latest project was an ADA (American with Disabilities Act) renovation for Anthony who lives confined to a wheelchair. He was unable to sleep in his own bedroom and utilize his bathroom due to the width of his doorways. After the completion of our repairs, Anthony enjoyed his first trip outdoors after three years.
As you can see our mission work is essential to provide our low-income neighbors with a dignified life but we CANNOT do this alone. We need YOU to support our Online Silent Auction which is being sponsored by our students from our four Campus Chapters; Georgian Court University, Donovan Catholic, Manchester High School and Toms River High School South. It gives me such pride to witness the energy, passion and sincere dedication that these students are demonstrating as they come together and strive to make a difference in their community. Please give generously and help make safe, decent housing a reality for all our neighbors!
