About Our Auction

Project Meraki is an art fundraiser by Stephanie Tada Loy to support the conservation projects of the Large Marine Vertebrates Research Institute Philippines (LAMAVE) to protect endangered marine species and their habitats in the Philippines. The online auction will run between August 30 - September 5 2020, with 70% of each painting sold donated to the cause.

Stephanie Loy is a 17-year-old, self-taught artist from Baguio, Philippines. She lives in the mountains but her heart is in the ocean. Moved by the plight of the oceans she has dedicated her talents to support the Philippines Seas and created Project Meraki, an online auction art fundraiser for our oceans. Meraki, a word used by modern Greeks is used to describe doing something with soul, creativity, or love - putting "something of yourself" into what you're doing. Steph will auction five paintings between August 30 - September 5 2020, with 70% of each painting sold donated to Large Marine Vertebrates Research Institute Philippines (LAMAVE) to support conservation actions to protect endangered marine species and their habitats in the Philippines.

Each painting features one key species LAMAVE works with: hawksbill turtle, tiger shark, whale shark, reef manta rays and homo sapiens. Protecting endangered species would be impossible without the commitment of people, particularly as human behaviours are the root of the problem. LAMAVE works with both governments and communities to achieve conservation actions and believes everyone can take individual action to protect the oceans.
