About Our Auction
A roof tile fundraiser for the permanent collection. Area artists are creating a work of art using one of the original blue slate tiles from the museum’s roof. In 2020, a tornado hit the museum causing roof damage and not all the original tiles from the 1929 roof were able to be reused. We have saved these tiles and artists are creating art with them to help us with a fundraiser to benefit care of the museum’s permanent collection.
Due to damage suffered from a fire in the museum’s art storage facility in 2017, the museum has recently purchased a new property for storing the art, increasing costs drastically for care of the collection.
**100% of proceeds go to benefit care of the museum’s permanent collection.**
Don't miss your chance to take home a unique piece of local history!
Exhibition and auction Starts October 10th in the Lower River Gallery and ends at pARTy 318 on October 20th.
pARTy 318 is October 20th from 5:30pm to 8:00pm
Please note: Tiles are heavy!! Also, please review sizes (located in the descriptions) prior to bidding. Tile sizes vary.
***** How do I display my tile? There are a few ideas we have for displaying your tile. To display it on a shelf or tabletop, a heavy-duty plate stand will work. For wall display, mirror mounting clips or a hanging plate holder would work. Either option should work if you choose the appropriate weight-bearing sized hardware. You could also take the tile to a professional framer to have an appropriate frame made for it. Please note that a few of these tiles have display capabilities included that were designed by the artist. This will be noted in the artwork description on the website.
