About Our Auction
If you were lucky enough to know Samantha Coleman, then you know she was one of the best we ever had. If you didn’t, here is what you need to know: Samantha Coleman was a lifelong theatre lover and big presence in the Broadway community. She became disabled as an adult, turning her passion for theatre into fierce advocacy for arts accessibility.
All funds raised through this auction will be donated in Samantha's name to support TDF's Accessible Performances, underwriting ASL-interpreted, open caption, and audio described performances on Broadway.
More info:
Open captioning supports patrons with slight to profound hearing loss. It provides a real-time electronic text display positioned to one side of the stage that shows what actors are saying and describes sound effects.
American Sign Language (ASL) interpreted performances engage a team of experienced theatre interpreters who stand to the side of a stage, translating the script and stage experience into ASL.
For guests with vision loss, TDF offers audio described performances. TDF provides a specially trained describer who verbalizes the action on stage during pauses in the dialogue. The describer uses a headset microphone, which is broadcast to guests through a receiver with a single earpiece.
