2nd Annual UnchARTed Waters

UnchARTed Waters is the collaboration of the Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada and several local business partners. Debuting in 2019, the art is created in a series of labs during the fall and winter. This year's art was inspired by choice and opportunity. Sensory connection and fluid movement were integral parts of each creation. Mixed media collage, large scale paintings with a variety of brushes, and printmaking were all opportunities for participating artists.

UnchARTed Waters, is a series of art labs designed for those with developmental disabilities and their families. The artwork is created with the intention of welcoming a sensory experience, a critical component of many therapies for those with developmental disabilities. UnchARTed creators look at art from many angles and attempt to create a space for permission to play in multiple mediums. From traditional seated art to painting with brooms and other found-object brushes, the lab is always warm, safe, inclusive, and active.
